Mrs. Glenda Bartell is the Director of Instrumental Music at Brea Junior High School as well as all six of the elementary schools in the Brea Olinda Unified School District. Under her leadership, the elementary and the junior high programs both enjoyed great musical success and growth. The musical groups have won numerous accolades, including ratings of superior at concert festivals throughout southern California. Mrs. Bartell enjoys teaching in the community of Brea and feels that there is still a great amount of potential for future growth in music.
Mrs. Bartell is a graduate of the University of Redlands in Redlands, California, where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and her California Teaching Credential. During her time at Redlands, Mrs. Bartell also spent a semester studying abroad in Salzburg, Austria, where she was able to study the clarinet at the renowned Mozarteum Conservatory. In July 2006, Mrs. Bartell completed a Master's degree through the American Band College of Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon. Through this program, Mrs. Bartell has played under and worked with many of the nation's and world's leading composers, conductors, and performers. Some of these include composers Robert W. Smith, James Barnes, Ralph Hultgren, Jan Van der Roost, and Frank Ticheli, military band conductors John Bourgious, Roxanne Haskill, and Lowell Graham, and music education/student leadership guru Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, among many other leaders in the field.
Mrs. Bartell is a confessed addict of Days of Our Lives, which she has watched for as long as she can remember. She is also a fan of American Idol and believes that Simon is usually right. She loves animals and has an adorable calico cat named Ginger. Mrs. Bartell's husband happens to be the band director at Brea Olinda High School! In her spare time, Mrs. Bartell enjoys anything that has to do with cooking, eating, and food!
